"Gerry does great growls!" - Dave Barry, nationally syndicated humorist
Gerald Hausman tells stories to children of all ages. He visits schools of all kinds and does programs that cover a variety of topics from animal lore to Indian lore, and from ghosts to Great Danes. He has done presentations to babies and to pre-schoolers and from all levels of grade school through graduate school. The size of the audience is not important to him - he speaks from the heart to two people or two hundred. He has done numerous talks on radio and television, and is very comfortable around the campfire. If you are interested in having Gerald visit your school, write to him by email and he will write back to you. "Mr. Hausman may be the most popular visiting speaker we have had come to our school. He is a veteran teacher, a seasoned performer, and has a wealth of varied material from which to work. We would have him back in a heartbeat"
- Fred Maas, Math Department Head "Gerald Hausman fills his stories with the sounds of life. He gives our children a chance to listen, really listen to the world around them. I am reminded of the old-time radio theater when I hear Gerald tell a story. Some of our children may not be proficient at the English language, yet they understand the animal sounds that Gerald uses to enliven the stories he tells."
- Becky Meeks, Media Specialist "Unique, fun, fascinating and sincere would best describe the Hausman author visit. From pre-school through 8th grade, Gerry and Lorry had no problem whatsoever entertaining all of our students! Their casual, heartfelt presentations were delightful for both our students and our staff offering a relaxed yet informative atmosphere for everyone to enjoy...we were all a bit sad when the visit ended."
- Rubye Eberson, Chairperson Author Outreach Committee
"Mr. Hausman's visit to Branford was definitely a great success with the students. From the moment he stepped onto the stage in the cafetorium, the author established an immediate rapport with every child in the room."
- Sheila Thomas, Staff Writer "The focus of our day was to celebrate the art of writing via our student authors. Your instructional workshop served as the perfect adjunct to inspire our students. You created the "magic" that topped off a perfect day."
- Marilyn Blatt, Media Specialist "Your talk was exciting and informative for the children (and their teachers--they told me later!). Your enthusiasm and obvious caring for the students was a joy to witness, and I also appreciated your patient responses to their many questions. You were attentive and kind to all who wanted your books whether or not they were able to purchase copies. I look forward to working with you on other projects in the future."
- Carol Mahler, Executive Director "Fordham University's Annual Literacy Institute has come to an end. The memories, however. will remain with each of the participants. Their responses to your presentation were consistently "outstanding. " They even remarked that "This is what education should be like!"
- Dr. Patricia A. Antonacci "I think you have been blessed in your field and now it is time to give thanks and share so that all your stories will carry on and people will respect and honor your work and most of all the stories about the relatives- bears, eagles, coyote and even the blue eye bear. We all will be on the blessed corn pollen path!"
- Jimmie Blueeyes "Thanks, Gerald. You made the conference a phenomenal success!"
- Anne Michel, Educational Coordinator, SPAEA "Over the past several weeks we have laughed, been brought to tears and inspired by courage and hope. We have traveled through the forest of Jamaica with mysterious duppies, struggled along with Tall T as he copes with becoming a man, and are inspired by a courageous Navajo boy and grandfather who fight to preserve their culture and their lives with the powerful coyote bead. One thing was apparent, Gerald's characters had pulled us into their lives. We celebrated their victories and mourned their losses. We fell in love with their stories. As I read I recognized that Mr. Hausman has a powerful message for each of us. In his characters we are able to find a little of ourselves. His stories kindle in us the hope that we will find what is unique about ourselves and celebrate these differences. He teaches us to cherish our diversity. Mr. Hausman offers us a mantra: Go out and live life, create your story, cherish your roots, uniqueness. Experience life."
- Cathy Callahan, Curriculum Coordinator
"Thank you again for coming to Romeo Elementary School. Your two
sessions were very entertaining for our third, fourth and fifth graders.
Your storytelling kept everyone engaged and your sound creations were
incredible! I also appreciated that you left our students with a message:
"Every person is special."

"Gerald Hausman performed at Desert Academy in Santa Fe, New Mexico for the first of our now annual poetry nights. He is a poet/performer/entertainer. His delivery this October night with a live jazz band was stupendous. The parents and students ate it up. The mix of fantasy, Native American, Caribbean and unique life experiences provided a wide palette for all. He is coming back for an encore in 2005!"
-Dr. Ray Griffin, Headmaster "Mr. Hausman was both entertaining and inspiring to our students. His unique stories and even more unique sound effects caught our students' attention, and never let go. They left that day more excited about reading and actually writing themselves than I have ever seen them. They are still buzzing about those stories and their own futures in writing weeks after Mr. Hausman's visit."
-Jeremy Cadell, second grade teacher "It was a pleasure having you as a featured author and performer at the Broward County Library's 17th Annual Conference on Children's Literature and Children's Reading Festival on April 15th and 16th, 2005. His sound effects were astonishingly effective and the students giggled for weeks afterwards as they tried to replicate his stories. Gerald also held a "Chapters" presentation for area teachers and librarians. It was a heart warming and thoroughly enlightening evening. Gerald and Loretta stayed for hours afterward signing books for everyone."

You earned so many new fans during your visit. Thank you for preparing such special presentations for the Suncoast Young Authors Celebration. It was a wonderful day for the children."
